API Standard 53 has raised the bar for industry to standardize BOP operating requirements and prioritize preventive maintenance, inspections and testing. To ensure crews are aware of and work to these standards, competency will be key, Cansco CEO Mike Simpson said. In this exclusive video from the 2013 SPE/IADC Middle East Drilling Technology Conference in Dubai last week, Mr Simpson talks about the challenges industry faces, particularly in the Middle East.

IADC recently hosted a webcast about the new API Standard 53, Blowout Prevention Equipment Systems for Drilling Wells, and how it is changing installation, inspection, maintenance, tests and operation of BOP equipment. Click here to register and watch the webcast.
