Consumer Energy Alliance encourages advocacy both within and outside Washington, DC

During panel session at the 2015 IADC Annual General Meeting in San Antonio on 5 November, Michael Whatley, Executive Vice President at the Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA), stated that the industry must work both inside and outside Washington to advance its agenda. In this video, Mr Whatley tells DC Editorial Coordinator Kelli Ainsworth about the CEA’s primary energy policy concerns, as well as how the organization plans to address those concerns through lobbying and by generating grassroots support.

Noble’s David Williams is 2015 IADC Contractor of the Year

David Williams, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of Noble Corp, has been recognized as 2015 IADC Contractor of the Year. Accepting his award on 6 November at the 2015 IADC Annual General Meeting in San Antonio, Texas, Mr Williams thanked all the people he has worked with during his career, noting that he has learned something from everyone. “It’s certainly been a privilege for me to work in this business,” he said.

Kenny Baker of Cactus Drilling wins IADC Chairman’s Anniversary Award

Kenny Baker, Drilling Superintendent for Cactus Drilling, received the inaugural IADC Chairman’s Anniversary Award on 5 November at the 2015 IADC Annual General Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. The award recognizes individuals working in the field who have helped improve performance for the drilling industry. In this video, Mr Baker recounts his work at Cactus that led to this award, as well as lessons he’s learned about safety during his career in the industry.

Drilling Systems Automation Roadmap seeks JIP funding

The Drilling Systems Automation Roadmap initiative is seeking joint industry project (JIP) funding to accelerate delivery of its first major report. The initiative, launched in June 2013, is affiliated with IADC through the Drilling Engineers Committee. It is also affiliated with SPE and AUVSI (Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International). The JIP details the development pathway that will be followed in automating the drilling process through a report that enables leaders to better understand the depth and breadth of drilling systems automation business opportunities.

I have been an active member of IADC for more than 30 years and a member of this industry for more than 40. This year’s market correction has changed the landscape for drilling contractors, and while times have been tough for all of us, I am proud of what our association has accomplished this year. It is in the toughest of times that we prove our strength, and IADC has a 75-year history to back up its formidable strength.
