Results of audience surveys at the 2009 IADC Completions Conference held some surprising results – and some that were not quite so surprising. For example, communication between drilling and completion professionals was judged to be a major problem, reports DC editor/publisher Mike Killalea in an exclusive video available below.

In addition, in a surprising development, the completions specialists gathered at the 17 November event in Houston overwhelmingly said that rather than drillships, semisubmersibles were a more desirable platform from which to install advanced deepwater completions in the Gulf of Mexico.

Other results indicated that two out of three audience respondents saw lower completions as a major source of reliability concerns in deepwater completions, compared with 25% for upper completions.
