Key changes expected in fifth edition of API Standard 53

The fifth edition of API Standard 53, being drafted now, is expected to be finalized and published in 2018 and will feature several key updates, Ricky Cummings, Chairman of the Standard 53 Committee and Senior Advisor of Global Well Control Systems at Chevron, said at the 2017 IADC Well Control Conference in Galveston, Texas. Major changes include shifting BOP requirements from the recommended working pressure of the equipment to the maximum anticipated surface pressure of the well, Mr Cummings said in this video from the conference on 6 December. He also explains how the testing section of the standard will be updated.
