Remembering William (Bill) F. Haley, III

William (Bill) F. Haley, age 62, Founder of Energy Resources and Supply, passed away on 1 February 2018 after a 31-month battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. He was born on 26 November 1955. After graduating from High Point University with a degree in business administration and economics, Mr Haley moved to Houston in 1978 and began his life-long career in the oil and gas industry. He first served as a manufacturer’s representative for Tri International before joining Prodrill Supply Company as Vice President. Remembering Howard Shatto

Howard Shatto, Chairman Emeritus of the Dynamic Positioning Committee of the Marine Technology Society, passed away on 21 January. Born in 1924, Mr Shatto had a long and distinguished career of pioneering offshore technology and was known as the father of dynamic positioning (DP). After graduating from Yale, Mr Shatto began his career with Shell, where he helped build Shell’s first diesel electric drilling rig. He also led in the development of ROVs for intervention on the first subsea BOPs for drilling and production. He conceived the world’s first automatic control for DP on Shell’s Eureka core drillship in 1960. Remembering Bob Keller

Bob Keller, Rowan Retiree and rig namesake, passed away on 24 July at the age of 91. He began working for Rowan Drilling immediately following his graduation from Texas A&M in 1947. He started as a roughneck on a steam rig in Alvin, Texas, and proceeded to work in almost all of Rowan’s operating regions at the time, including the Southern, Western and Rocky Mountain Divisions, the Gulf of Mexico and Southeast Asia. After 43 years of service, Mr Keller retired as Vice President of Operations for Rowan Companies Inc. on January 1, 1991. In 2005, a TARZAN Class jack-up rig was named in his honor. William (Bill) Haley, Jr, age 87, President of Houston Systems Manufacturing, passed away on 8 June 2017. Mr Haley had a long and distinguished career in the oil and gas industry. During his career, he served as a senior executive with several divisions of Dresser Industries in Houston, before being transferred to Salisbury, Maryland in 1969. In 1976, Mr Haley left Dresser and joined Houston Systems. After his retirement in 1981, Mr Haley was an entrepreneur, serving as Chairman and CEO of the startup Quality Oilfield Products, and later adding a charter business, Gulf Winds.
