MPD improves data collection, BOP service integrity life

Conventional drilling methods often don’t provide enough data during the operation on pore/frac pressure and formation strength, and as a result, influxes are not detected until they reach the surface, Robert Ziegler, Global Director of Well Control Technology for Weatherford, said at the 2017 IADC Asset Integrity and Reliability Conference in Houston. In this video from the conference on 23 August, Mr Ziegler explains how managed pressure drilling (MPD) can provide more data on the pressure window and flow anomalies to reduce the chances of a blowout. He also explains how MPD can impact the service integrity life of BOPs.
