New hardbanding procedure extends life of workstring connections

Rather than replacing worn work tube, a new procedure for the application of Duraband NC hardbanding on workstring tubing connections is said to restore worn workstring tubulars.

The upset connections of 2 7/8 in. and 2 3/8 in. tubing are experiencing excessive wear in many drilling environments, especially in abrasive formations and long horizontal laterals. This excessive wear is not allowing the workstring connection to achieve its normal amount of recuts, effectively causing the tubing to be scrapped before reaching 100% of its useful life.

This procedure from Hardbanding Solutions by Postle Industries has been shown to significantly increase service life. The procedure calls for the application of Duraband NC hardbanding to both pin and box near the taper allowing for multiple re-cuts as necessary. The procedure is recommended for new tubing, application over used tubing or re-applications over previously hardbanded connections.
