Epstein: Industry must take different approach to fossil fuels debate

Much of the developed world wouldn’t be able to enjoy the quality of life it currently enjoys without the benefits of fossil fuels. For example, crops that are harvested using gasoline-powered equipment feed millions of people, while petrochemicals are used to manufacture materials for life-saving medical equipment and supplies. However, the oil and gas industry hasn’t been very successful in communicating these benefits of fossil fuels to the general public. In a keynote speech at the 2017 SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference, Alex Epstein, author of “The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels,” asserted that the industry shouldn’t approach the public debate about fossil fuels from a fact-based view. It should look at it in terms of competing moral frameworks, he said.

Maersk Drilling secures new contract for jackup Maersk Resolute

Maersk Drilling has been awarded a new contract with Petrogas E&P Netherlands B.V. for the high efficiency jackup, Maersk Resolute. The firm contract covers the drilling of the two wells, A8 and A9 in the A12 block of the Dutch continental shelf. The drilling of the two wells is estimated to have a duration of 75 days. Furthermore, an option to extend the contract for up to five additional wells exist.

Development of USCG/NIST Cybersecurity Framework ‘MODU Profile’ launched at IADC

IADC, along with representatives from NIST/NCCoE and USCG, among others, have launched development of a new Cybersecurity Framework Profile for MODUs.
