IADC North Sea Chapter Safety Awards honor members for best in performance

On 22 March, the IADC North Sea Chapter (NSC) hosted its annual safety awards in Aberdeen. The event provided a platform for recognizing and celebrating members in the region for high standards of safety achievements within the industry in 2023.

This year’s award recipients included:

Associate Member Award

  • Winner: EP3
  • Runner-up: NOV M/D Totco

Best Safety Performance Awards

  • Jackups below 1 million manhours – Borr Drilling
  • Jackups above 1 million manhours – Valaris
  • Floating rigs below 1 million manhours – Well-Safe Solutions
  • Floating rigs above 1 million manhours – COSL Drilling Europe
  • Platforms – Archer
  • Best safety performance, jackup: Shelf Drilling Winner, Shelf Drilling
  • Best safety performance, floating rig: Ocean Patriot, Diamond Offshore
  • Best safety performance, platform: Kvitebjørn, KCA Deutag

IADC Student Chapters tour Valaris semisubmersible

In March, 26 members of several IADC Student Chapters toured the Valaris 8503 rig in Galveston, Texas, while attending the IADC/SPE International Drilling Conference. Valaris crew members provided a comprehensive tour of the rig, offering students an up-close look at the intricate workings of the semisubmersible. The company showcased each aspect of the operation, from the drill floor to the living quarters, giving students a first-hand understanding of the complexities and the technical expertise involved in safe and efficient operations.

Southeast Asia Chapter presents Safety Awards

The IADC Southeast Asia Chapter hosted its second annual Safety Awards gala on 29 February in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Highlights included a welcome reception, banquet dinner, IADC updates and the safety awards presentation. The keynote address was delivered by Prateek Pandey, VP of E&P Research for Southeast Asia with Rystad Energy.

  • Years recordable-free onshore – PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia PDSI #23.1/CWKT210-M; PDSI #04.3/N110-M
  • Years recordable-free offshore – Velesto Naga 6
  • Best recordable incident rate onshore – Borr Skald
  • Best recordable incident rate offshore – Borr Drilling

Best safety initiative (non-drilling contractors)

  • 1st place – MTQ Engineering
  • 2nd place – HMH
  • 3rd place – PT CESCO Offshore and Engineering

UTP Student Chapter holds 4-day IADC Drilling Week

In March, the IADC Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) Student Chapter hosted “IADC Drilling Week 2024,” a four-day event that included knowledge sharing and networking for students interested in the drilling industry. The event’s sessions included topics such as:

  • Sustainability of the oil and gas business: what are the future needs for new graduates?
  • Introduction to the oil and gas industry
  • Well integrity, including case study, experiences and challenges
  • Women in the oil and gas industry, including challenges and opportunities
  • Digital transformation in the oil and gas industry.

New IADC Student Chapters established in Texas, Algeria

IADC Student Chapters have been officially established at The University of Texas Permian Basin in Midland, Texas, and the University of Boumerdès in Algeria. The Student Chapter program now has a network of 20 chapters present at universities and learning institutions throughout the world.
