IADC North Sea Chapter presents annual safety awards

The IADC North Sea Chapter (NSC) recognized the best in safety performance at its annual Safety Awards Ceremony held in Aberdeen on 24 April. NSC Chairman Lee Reborse of Noble Drilling welcomed a large turnout, and guest speakers included Tom Burke, President and CEO, Rowan Companies; and Jim House, Region Vice President and Managing Director, Apache North Sea.

John Atkinson, IADC Regional Director, commented: “Once again, our North Sea Chapter members have to be congratulated in presenting some outstanding results in the 2014 Safety Awards categories. The judging panel were impressed by the number of individual units returning zero or very low recordable incidents against the criteria used in the evaluation process. An ongoing focus on improving safety remains very much one of the pillars in our strategy to catalyze improved performance alongside operational efficiency and managing the market reality in these tough times we now find ourselves in.”

A number of awards were presented to companies and installations for their safety record over the past year. Awards for best safety performance in 2014 went to North Atlantic Drilling and Noble Drilling in the jackups category; Awilco Drilling and Transocean in the floating rigs category and Odfjell Drilling in platform drilling.

Chairman’s Awards, which recognize individual rigs and their crews that had the best safety performance in 2014, went to Ensco 92, Ensco (jackup); WilHunter, Awilco Drilling (floating rig); and Murchison, KCA Deutag (platform).

The Associate Member Award was presented to Falck Safety Services.

The event was hosted by journalist and broadcaster Sally Magnusson, and funds raised at the event will be donated to Alzheimer Scotland and Mental Health Aberdeen.
