IADC KREW leads evolution in well control training

IADC recently launched the Knowledge Retention & Education for our Workforce (KREW) system. KREW is a crucial tool for closing skills gaps, utilized in conjunction with IADC’s WellSharp program and certifications. The continuous-learning platform is designed to help the drilling industry retain critical on-the-job knowledge in between well control recertification training. 

In this video, DC Associate Editor Stephen Whitfield talks to two members of the KREW Steering Committee – Mike Garvin, Senior VP Operations at Patterson-UTI Drilling, and Jeremy Sokol, Technical Training Unit Manager at Chevron. 

IADC recently began offering two-year access to KREW with WellSharp Live. Effective 1 May, WellSharp Live test codes and certificates for Driller and Supervisor level certification courses will automatically provide access to the KREW system.

IADC establishes new sustainability committee

IADC recently launched the new Sustainability Committee. The effort grew out of the IADC ESG Workgroup that was formed in 2020.

Neil Forrest, Seadrill VP Operational Integrity, and Jesse Hein, Environmental Manager at Patterson-UTI Drilling, will serve as Co-Chairs. Initial goals for the committee include reaching out and working with standards bodies, the investment community and other stakeholders.

Drilling contractors interested in joining this committee are encouraged to reach out to Thad Dunham, IADC Director of Government & Industry Affairs – Offshore, at thad.dunham@iadc.org.

Latin America Chapter Chair to speak at upcoming Guyana, Suriname events

The IADC Latin America Chapter recently announced that its Chairman, Carlos Ortiz Reguer, will speak at two upcoming events focused on the emerging oil and gas markets in Guyana and Suriname.

The first – Guyana International Petroleum Business Summit & Exhibition – will be held virtually on 28-30 June. The event is hosted by the Guyanese Ministry of Natural Resources. The second event – the Suriname International Petroleum & Gas Summit and Exhibition – is scheduled to be held virtually on 5-7 October.

Also at its meeting on 25 March, the Latin America Chapter announced it was partnering with Holland House Mexico, a Dutch-Mexican Chamber of Commerce that promotes international trade, investment and sustainable business development between The Netherlands and Mexico. Synergies between the two groups are being explored to maximize value to members.

ART Committee announces officers, holds 2 virtual events

The IADC Advanced Rig Technology (ART) Committee recently announced new officers. Assaad Mohanna, Director of Business Strategy at NOV, will serve as Chairman, while Karma Slusarchuk, Wellbore Construction Champion for Parker Drilling, will serve as Vice Chair. Additionally, the committee recently held two virtual events. The first event, which was live-streamed on social media on 31 March, featured two early adopters of the IADC DDR Plus (Noble Drilling and Parker Drilling) sharing their lessons learned. The second event on drill bit forensics was led by Paul Pastusek with ExxonMobil.

IADC DEC Committee to hold Geothermal Forum on 30 June

The IADC Drilling Engineers Committee (DEC) will focus on geothermal drilling challenges at its next Technology Forum on 30 June. The event will explore the advances required for geothermal to achieve its full potential. Abstracts for presentations will be accepted until 21 May.
