Wild Well Control dispatched to GOM blowout

A blowout was reported on 23 July at well A-3 on the South Timbalier 220 block, which is operated by Walter Oil & Gas. Hercules Offshore’s rig 265 was on the well site finishing a sidetrack on the non-producing natural gas well when it suffered a blowout.

The cause of the blowout is unknown, nor is the well’s current flow rate.

All 44 personnel onboard the rig were evacuated, and a small film on the water was reportedly dissipating quickly, thus the environmental impact appears minimal at this time. No oil is flowing, only natural gas, according to the US Bureau of Environmental Enforcement.

Superior Energy ServicesWild Well Control has been dispatched to control the well, but due to unsafe conditions and a fire that has reportedly ignited on the rig, the crew has been unable to control the well at this time.
