New DynaEnergetics manufacturing facility opens in Blum, Texas

DynaEnergetics, a business of DMC Global, has officially opened its technologically advanced manufacturing, assembly and administrative facilities on its industrial campus in Blum, Texas. The facility spans 74,000 sq. ft and significantly expands the production capacity of the DynaStage well perforating system. The solution provides wireline companies and operators with a highly effective plug-and-go system that streamlines perforating operations, while alleviating labor costs, assembly time, maintenance and risk of misfire.

New production resources include six DynaStage assembly lines and multiple CNC turning centers for in-house manufacturing of tandem sub adaptors (TSAs), a key component in the DynaStage system. In addition, the company is installing two new automated shaped-charge production lines that will more than triple the US production capacity of the business’ advanced perforating charges. DynaEnergetics also has added administrative and sales offices, employee and customer training facilities, an oversized gathering and dining space, commercial kitchen, employee locker rooms and a tornado shelter.

“Completion of these vertically integrated manufacturing facilities will enable DynaEnergetics to more efficiently address growing customer demand for our factory-assembled perforating systems,” Ian Grieves, President of DynaEnergetics, said. “We have sold more than 500,000 DynaStage units since the system was introduced approximately two years ago to North America’s onshore unconventional oil and gas industry. The systems have led to a step-change improvement in the efficiency, reliability and safety of our customers’ well completion programs.”

Grieves said the new facilities were designed to create a modern, inviting and highly efficient work environment for DynaEnergetics’ growing workforce. “We have taken an important step toward our objective of becoming the employer of choice for this region,” Mr Grieves said. “In addition to a world-class advanced manufacturing environment, we offer competitive pay and excellent benefits, and have incorporated a number of amenities designed to strengthen the employee experience.”

During 2018, DynaEnergetics has added more than 80 salaried and hourly employees at its facilities in Blum and nearby Whitney, Texas, an increase of approximately 70%. Grieves said the DynaEnergetics will continue to invest in the expansion of its regional workforce into 2019.

The primary building was Designed by Arch11, an architectural firm based in Boulder, Colorado. “The thoughtful sustainable features visible throughout the facility provide a modern twist to the traditional manufacturing setting,” E.J. Meade, Principal in charge for Arch11, said. “The design was carefully constructed to blend the rural plains of Texas with the contemporary exterior steel-metal panels, interior polished concrete floors and acoustic cloud ceiling.”
