Schlumberger completes merger with Cameron

Schlumberger has closed its merger with Cameron. As previously announced, each Cameron stockholder is entitled to receive 0.716 shares of Schlumberger common stock and $14.44 in cash, in exchange for each Cameron share. Schlumberger has issued approximately 138 million shares pursuant to the merger. As a result, former Cameron stockholders own approximately 10% of Schlumberger’s outstanding shares of common stock.

The transaction combines two complementary technology portfolios into a pore-to-pipeline products and services offering to the oil and gas industry. The merger will create technology-driven growth by integrating Schlumberger reservoir and well technology with Cameron wellhead and surface equipment, flow control and processing technology. This will result in the industry’s first complete drilling and production systems, which are enabled by Schlumberger expertise in instrumentation, data processing, control software and system integration.

Vallourec signs contract with ADNOC to supply OCTG

Vallourec has signed a contract with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to supply OCTG from 2016 to 2018 to its three operating companies, ADMA-OPCO, ADCO and ZADCO. This represents the largest single OCTG contract that Vallourec has received to supply the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Under the contract, Vallourec will supply a full range of standard API and premium OCTG. Also included is the supply of high-torque VAM connections for extended reach drilling and corrosion-resistant alloy steels for sour service. In addition, Vallourec will provide field running supervision and inspection.

In related news, Vallourec announced that it will deliver close to 1,500 tons of seamless OCTG to Geothermie Holzkirchen for a geothermal power project at Holzkirchen, in Bavaria, Germany, which is planned to start operating in 2017. The project calls for the drilling of two wells to a depth of nearly 5,000 m, the first of which is under way.

This initial well will bring the geothermal water to the surface at a temperature of 140°C. A steam generator and heat exchanger will then transform this hot water to produce electricity and heat. Once cooled, the water will follow its loop back down into the calcareous aquifer, descending through the second well.

Maersk Training opens simulation facility in Dubai

Maersk Training opened a facility for advanced operational simulation training in February in Dubai.

Maersk Training is placing a strong focus on human factor elements alongside operational performance. The facility allows oil and gas and maritime companies to test planned operations in a life-like but safe simulated environment.

By ensuring that the crews are optimally prepared before they engage in the actual operation, the training aims to increase safety, save time and reduce cost.

Archer awarded five-year contract by ConocoPhillips

ConocoPhillips has awarded Archer a five-year contract for the provision of mechanical wireline services for the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Archer has provided wireline intervention and cased hole logging services for ConocoPhillips since 2009, and the current contract would have expired in January 2017. The new contract will commence on  1 May 2016 and will cover a period of five years.

Shell Technology Ventures increases stake in Welldog after successful trial

Shell Technology Ventures has increased its minority stake in WellDog following a successful beta trial of its proprietary shale gas reservoir testing service, Reservoir Raman System. The service is directed at identifying the locations where natural gas and natural gas liquids occur in shale formations, allowing producers to focus development efforts, reduce drilling costs, optimize production and reduce the number of hydraulic fracturing stages and associated water usage.

Deep Sea Innovations launches new valve technology

Deep Sea Innovations has developed a new valve technology that aims to protect offshore oil and gas fields. The valve has an open design, which facilitates the valve landing on the origin of a leak. Because of its compact construction, it can not only close the lead on a particular well but also makes it possible for each well to have its own valve.

The valve assembly can operate at any depth, from the surface of the water or in 30,000 ft of water.

The valve was further tested in computational fluid dynamics analysis for a 5,000 gal/min flow with a 9-in. ID positioned at 1,200 ft and 10,000 ft of water depths.

The device can oppose and close reservoir pressures in excess of 15,000 psi and seal a leak. The closure force is scalable to what is needed for the particular well, whether the leak is occurring in the riser or in a BOP connector. Once closed, the valve can be re-opened.

With only one moving part that is not connected to another part, the valve has increased reliability. It can utilize reliable power sources of ambient water pressure or accumulators as the particular well depth and well pressures dictate.

NOV Introduces end-to-end predictive solution for BOPs

National Oilwell Varco has developed and validated an end-to-end predictive solution that can foresee operational failures in subsea blowout preventer (BOP) components.

RIGSENTRY offers a remote condition monitoring service that provides live predictive analytics of subsea BOPs. This new predictive capability is expected to give customers real-time visibility into product health and performance within a prediction horizon of approximately 14 days. It can identify the specific point of failure and alert customers earlier than a human operator or other traditional detection techniques. The predictive feature is powered by MAX, NOV’s industrial data platform.

Online marketplace targets used equipment sales

Dragon Products has launched an online marketplace for used equipment. “We wanted our customers to know that auction is neither the only nor the best option if they want to liquidate or purchase equipment,” Mandy Raps, Dragon Marketing Manager, said.

The online marketplace can be found at www.dragonusedequipment.com.

Antelope adds new centralizer subs

Antelope Oil Tool has developed the CentraMax RT1 (rotating), PI1 (push-in) and PT1 (pull-through) centralizer subs. The sub series is designed to run in extremely tight-tolerance deepwater well applications and ultra-narrow annular clearances, usually when the annular clearance is smaller than ¾ in. or less than the material stack.

Using CentraMax CT one-piece centralizers, Antelope directly installs the centralizers onto the threaded sub body. The RT1 centralizer sub is always pulled and/or reciprocated both in and out of the restriction through the use of an internal machined integral sub body anchor, allowing the centralizer to rotate freely inside the hole.

The PI1 centralizer sub allows the centralizer to be pushed and reciprocated in both directions when installed between two integral machined sub body anchors. The PT1 centralizer sub is always pulled and/or reciprocated both in and out of the restriction with specially designed “window” openings in the centralizer’s end collars.

New transport trolley from Protea is self-propelled

Protea recently developed a self-propelled transport trolley with integrated pneumatic drive system.

“A self propelled trolley is a much more versatile solution as it can be used at multiple locations, requires less deck space and is simpler to commission as there is no need to install a separate winch system complete with tow lines,” Tomasz Poprawa, Project Manager, said. The first unit is undergoing testing at Protea’s production facility in southern Poland.

Baker Hughes introduces predictive analytics software for operators

Baker Hughes has announced the commercial release of its FieldPulse model-based, predictive analytics software. It enables operators to proactively optimize production across entire fields by giving them a clear understanding of an asset’s performance in real time.

The software can seamlessly integrate and interpret large volumes of production data, well models and well test data from multiple sources; then, automating common petroleum engineering calculations, it helps to identify and rank underperforming wells.

Key performance indicators such as rate decline and model deviations are constantly monitored, and warnings and alerts are generated to accelerate well selection and provide actionable data to help operators make decisions relating to well remediation.

Because the software uses data from existing production and completion databases, new sensors, gauges or databases are not needed. The software also has a built-in nodal engine, which allows real-time integration between field data and well models.
