BHGE introduces low-pressure-impact drilling fluid

In challenging wells with narrow operating windows, using a fluid with low equivalent circulating density (ECD) typically only mitigates some of the risks but doesn’t reliably meet all drilling objectives. Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE), has launched Delta-TEQ, a drilling fluid that the company says was designed to have low pressure impact, which helps to extend narrow windows. In this video with DC on 6 May at the 2019 OTC, Brian Teutsch, Product Management Leader for BHGE, talks about the fluid’s advanced non-aqueous formulation and explains how it was used for better hole cleaning in a deviated borehole in the Gulf of Mexico. Watch the video to find out more.

Active Control Device drills deepwater MPD section in Black Sea

AFGlobal recently completed the first MPD section in a Black Sea well for Shell on Noble Drilling’s Noble Globetrotter II drillship. Key to this project is the Active Control Device (ACD), which uses a non-rotating device with an actively pressurized, co-molded element to seal the wellbore annulus and divert returns. This eliminates complex bearing assemblies and high-wear rotary seal components found in traditional rotating control devices (RCDs). In this video at the 2019 OTC in Houston on 6 May, Austin Johnson, Lead Development Engineer with AFGlobal, explains how the system works and its potential benefits. Watch the video for more information.
