P-55 semi platform starts up as part of Roncador Module 3 in Campos Basin

Petrobras’ P-55, the biggest semisubmersible platform ever built in Brazil, has a daily capacity for processing 180,000 barrels of oil, compressing 6 million cu meter of natural gas and injecting 290,000 bbls of water.

Petrobras’ P-55 platform, one of the company’s strategic projects under its 2013-2017 Business and Management Plan, started-up on 31 December in the Roncador field in Campos Basin. P-55 is part of Roncador’s Module 3 project and will be connected to 17 wells, 11 of which are oil and gas production and six are water injection. P-55 is a semisubmersible installed at a water depth of 1,800 meters, with a daily capacity for processing 180,000 barrels of oil, compressing 6 million cu meter of natural gas and injecting 290,000 bbls of water.

Weighing 52,000 tons and with an area of 10,000 sq meters, P-55 is the biggest semisubmersible platform ever built in Brazil and one of the biggest of its kind worldwide. Construction work on P-55 is part of the Brazilian federal government’s Growth Acceleration Plan. The construction and integration of platform modules were carried out entirely in Brazil, boosting the local content rate to 79%. Construction work generated 5,000 direct and 15,000 indirect jobs.

The new unit will operate alongside platforms P-52 and P-54, already installed in the Roncador field, and with platform P-62, that left the Atlântico Sul Shipyard, located in Ipojuca in the state of Pernambuco, on 30 December and is moving toward its location in Module IV of the field.
