Integrated liner hanger system combines capabilities of conventional, expandable liner hangers

Weatherford has developed the SwageHammer integrated liner hanger system to reduce leak potential and improve reliability in high-angle, high-pressure and high-temperature wells in deepwater. The company introduced the liner hanger system at the 2016 IADC/SPE Drilling Conference in Fort Worth, Texas. In this video from the conference on 3 March, Sean Yakeley, Product Champion-Well Construction Products for Weatherford, explains how the SwageHammer combines the features of conventional and expandable liner-hangers to reduce uncertainty during liner installation.

IADC Nigeria Chapter sets goal to reduce NPT by 15-20% by 2018

The IADC Nigeria Chapter has come a long way since it was established in October 2012. Through the efforts of engaged members, the chapter has been able to increase its visibility within the Nigerian oil and gas community and among industry regulators, as well as provide a platform for discussing critical industry issues, such as equipment maintenance and workforce competency. Going forward, the chapter has set a goal to reduce NPT by 15-20% by 2018. IADC President: BOP reliability database, well control training among key projects for coming year

Despite today’s difficult economic environment, IADC is pushing ahead on a multitude of industry projects aimed at helping its members around the world improve performance. Among these projects is a BOP reliability database, a joint effort being undertaken with the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers. Other projects include the WellSharp well control accreditation regime and continuing efforts around the Indonesian cabotage law. Pioneer Energy Services streamlines pre-job planning process

When certain tasks become more common and routine in drilling operations, the job safety analysis (JSA) process may become less efficient, said Brian Tucker, President-Drilling Services at Pioneer Energy Services. To ensure that the company is setting achievable expectations and that it is giving crews the proper tools to mitigate hazards, Pioneer decided to examine its pre-job planning process. In this video from the 2016 IADC HSE&T Conference on 3 February in Houston, Mr Tucker explains some of the changes the company has made to its pre-job planning process ­– including the introduction of new job safety worksheets – and the outcomes of those changes.

Competency program boosts safety, performance at Nomac Drilling

In 2012, Nomac Drilling looked beyond equipment, experience, loyalty and leadership and established the Rig Crew Development Program (RCDP) to focus on competency. Over the past several years, the program has helped to speed up the learning curve for new-to-industry employees and the promotion process for high-potential employees. It has also improved safety and efficiency and reduced turnover, Nomac Drilling Director of HSE Michael Stephens said at the 2016 IADC HSE&T Conference on 2 February in Houston. Creating a culture where teamwork thrives starts at the top

During a panel session held at the 2016 IADC HSE&T Conference on 3 February in Houston, Eduardo Salas discussed the role teamwork plays in creating a culture of safety. In this video, Dr Salas, Professor of Industrial and Organizational Psychology at Rice University, outlines some of the challenges to building a strong team. These include the sense of uncertainty that employees feel during a downturn, fear of reporting an incident and a tendency to put oneself above the team. However, a company’s leadership can help create an environment in which teamwork thrives.
